About Bankura

Bankura, located in the western part of West Bengal, is renowned for its rich cultural and historical heritage. History of Bankura:
While the exact origins of Bankura are not definitively known, historical references suggest it has been significant since ancient times. The region has a rich cultural tapestry, with the Bishnupur Terracotta Temples dating back to the 17th century, showcasing exquisite craftsmanship. Bankura was also an important center for Jainism and later for Hinduism, as evidenced by various temples and archaeological sites. The town's historical significance is further highlighted by its association with the Malla dynasty, which played a crucial role in shaping its cultural heritage.

Geography of Bankura:
Bankura is situated at a latitude of 23.25°N and a longitude of 87.07°E, with an average elevation of 78 meters (256 feet) above sea level. The district covers an area of 6,882 square kilometers. It is bordered by the districts of Purulia to the west, Bardhaman to the east, Paschim Medinipur to the south, and Dhanbad (Jharkhand) to the north.

Climate of Bankura:
Bankura experiences a tropical climate with hot, humid summers and mild winters. Summers last from March to May, with May being the hottest month, where temperatures can soar to around 40°C. The monsoon season runs from June to September, bringing substantial rainfall with an average annual precipitation of about 1400mm. Winters, from November to February, bring cooler temperatures, with January seeing lows around 10°C. The winter months are considered the best time to visit due to the pleasant weather.
